Google AdSense and third-party advertising
We use Google AdSense to display advertisements. Google, as a third-party vendor, uses cookies to serve ads on this site. Google's use of advertising cookies — including the DoubleClick DART cookie — enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visit to this site and other sites on the internet.
Third-party vendors and ad networks. Third-party vendors, including Google, may place and read cookies on your browser, or use web beacons and your IP address, to collect information as a result of ads being served on this website. This information may include your device type, browser, approximate location derived from your IP address, the pages you viewed and how you interacted with the ads. We do not control these cookies, and we do not receive the personal information they collect.
How to opt out. You can turn off personalised advertising in Google Ads Settings. To opt out of interest-based advertising from many vendors at once, use aboutads.info/choices or the Network Advertising Initiative opt-out page. You can also block or delete cookies in your browser settings. Opting out stops ads being personalised; it does not stop ads being shown.
Affiliate Programs
We participate in affiliate marketing programs. When you click on affiliate links, the affiliate partner may use cookies to track your activity. We do not have access to or control over these cookies.
How We Share Your Information
We do not sell, trade, or rent your personal information to third parties. We may share your information in the following circumstances:
- With service providers: Companies that help us operate our website (hosting, analytics, email services)
- For legal reasons: If required by law or to protect our rights
- Business transfers: In connection with a merger, sale, or acquisition
- With your consent: When you explicitly agree to share your information

We implement appropriate technical and organizational security measures to protect your personal information. However, no method of transmission over the internet or electronic storage is 100% secure. While we strive to use commercially acceptable means to protect your data, we cannot guarantee absolute security.

- Deletion: Request deletion of your personal information
- Opt-out: Unsubscribe from marketing emails (click "unsubscribe" in any email)
- Cookie control: Manage cookies through your browser settings

The FindMyTrain Android and iOS App
This section covers the FindMyTrain mobile app, which is separate from this website and collects different things. Where this section and the rest of this policy differ, this section governs the app.
What the app sends, and what it does not
The app has no accounts and no sign-in. It never asks for your name, email address or phone number, and it has no way to contact you.
- Train numbers, station codes and PNR numbers you enter are sent to our servers only to look up the answer, and are passed on to Indian Railways' public enquiry systems and to our rail data provider. We do not store them, and they are not attached to you or to your device.
- A PNR number is never sent anywhere else. The PNRs, trains, stations and routes you have looked up recently are kept on your phone alone, never uploaded, and are erased by Clear history in Settings. Your language and text size are also kept on the phone, and are removed when you uninstall the app.
- No location. The app does not ask for, use or receive your location.
- No contacts, photos, files, microphone or camera. The app does not request any of these permissions.
Crash reports and usage analytics
The app uses two Google services, Firebase Crashlytics and Google Analytics for Firebase, to find out what breaks and which parts of the app are used:
- Firebase Crashlytics receives a report when the app crashes or hits an error: the error itself, where in the code it happened, your device model, operating system version and app version, and a randomly generated installation identifier. It does not receive anything you typed, and crash collection is switched off entirely in development builds.
- Google Analytics for Firebase receives which screens are opened and which features are used, along with device model, operating system version, app version, coarse region and a randomly generated app instance identifier. It may also collect an advertising identifier. It does not receive train numbers, station choices or PNR numbers — the app sends no parameter naming what you looked up, and its test suite fails if one is ever added.
Both are operated by Google, whose handling of this data is covered by the Firebase privacy policy and the Google privacy policy. You can limit advertising identifiers in your device settings: on Android under Settings › Privacy › Ads, and on iOS under Settings › Privacy & Security › Tracking.
Notifications
Arrival alarms. If you set an alarm for a station, the app schedules a notification on your phone. That alarm is stored on the device and is never sent to us.
Service updates. The app can also receive occasional messages from us about the app and the railways, sent through Firebase Cloud Messaging. To deliver them, Google issues your installation a registration token and the app subscribes it to two topics: one for everybody, and one for the language you read the app in. The token identifies an installation, not a person; we hold no list of users, and a message is sent to a topic rather than to anyone in particular. Uninstalling the app invalidates the token.
We ask for notification permission once, the first time you follow a train, and you can say no. Service updates can be switched off at any time in Settings → Notifications, which unsubscribes this installation from both topics, and notification permission itself can be withdrawn in your device settings. Turning service updates off does not stop arrival alarms, which use a separate channel.
Advertising in the app
The app does not currently show advertisements and contains no advertising SDK. If that changes, this policy will be updated before any advertising ships, and the store listing's data disclosures will be updated with it.
Deleting app data
Everything the app keeps lives on your phone. Clearing history in Settings removes the trains, stations, searches and PNRs it remembers; uninstalling the app removes all of it. The anonymous crash and analytics data held by Google expires on its own — crash reports after 90 days, analytics after no more than 14 months — and is not tied to your name or phone, so it cannot be looked up for one person. The step-by-step instructions, and exactly what is kept and for how long, are on our app data deletion page.
Children's Privacy
Our website is not intended for children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has provided us with personal information, please contact us so we can delete it.
The FindMyTrain app is likewise not directed at children. It has no accounts and asks for no personal information, so it has no means of knowingly collecting anything from a child.
International Users
Our website is operated from India. If you are accessing our website from outside India, please be aware that your information may be transferred to, stored, and processed in India where our servers are located and our central database is operated.
Visitors from the EEA, the UK and Switzerland. Where required, advertising and analytics cookies that are not strictly necessary are used only with your consent, and you may withdraw that consent at any time by clearing cookies in your browser or using the opt-out links above. You also have the right to access, correct, or request deletion of your personal data, and to object to processing — write to us using the contact details below and we will respond within the period the applicable law allows.
Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update our Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new Privacy Policy on this page and updating the "Last Updated" date. You are advised to review this Privacy Policy periodically for any changes.
