Reading the timetable

Fast or slow. A fast local skips most stations between the big ones, so it can be far quicker even when a slow one leaves first. Each train is marked fast or slow from its journey time on your route.

One station, two codes. Where two lines meet, each line can have its own code. In Mumbai, Dadar is DR on the Central line and DDR on the Western line. If no train shows, try the other one.

Timings are the published timetable. Locals run late in the monsoon and during block days, and Sunday services are fewer. The platform indicator at the station is the final word. For more on Mumbai locals, see our Mumbai local guides.
